Pfc. Balliet was the son of Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Balliet of Mobridge, formerly of Trail City, California. Alfred Balliet was a graduate of the McLaughlin High School. He attended Nettinton Business College a year prior before going into the service.

Pfc. Alfred Balliet had been stationed in Australia, New Guinea, Dutch East Indies and the Philippines before beying killed in action with A Company of the 503rd Parachute Infantry Regiment on Corregidor Island, February 25, 1945. He had served nearly four years as a paratrooper and had been overseas for nearly 28 months when he was killed.

The body of the late Pfc. Alfred Balliet, would return soon after his death to Mobridge for funeral.
